President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerian youth of sustained government support through policies and funding. In his Independence Day speech, he praised young Nigerians as the nation’s “greatest assets” and revealed that over 510,000 students have benefited from the NELFUND loan scheme.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians through supportive policies and funding initiatives.
In his Independence Day broadcast on Tuesday to mark Nigeria’s 65th anniversary, the president described the youth as the nation’s “greatest assets” and encouraged them to continue dreaming big and excelling in their chosen fields.
“I have a message for our young people. You are the future and the greatest assets of this blessed country,” Tinubu said.
“You must continue to dream big, innovate, and conquer more territories in your various fields of science, technology, sports, and the art and creative sector.”
He assured that his government would keep investing in initiatives designed to uplift the younger generation.
“Our administration, through policies and funding, will continue to give you wings to fly sky-high,” the president declared.
Tinubu also highlighted the impact of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), created to support students financially. According to him, more than half a million students across the country have already benefited.
“We created NELFUND to support students with loans for their educational pursuits. Approximately 510,000 students across 36 states and the FCT have benefited from this initiative, covering 228 higher institutions,” he said.
He noted that, as of September 10, the scheme had disbursed N99.5 billion in loans and N44.7 billion in upkeep allowances.
The president pledged to sustain and expand such initiatives to ensure that Nigerian youths remain competitive on the global stage and well-prepared for the future.
