Tinubu, Shettima Mourn Borno Victims, Pledge Stronger Security Measures
President Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces to review security operations with advanced hardware and drones after the Borno massacre. VP Shettima mourns victims and reassures families of government support.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the Armed Forces to overhaul ongoing security operations, mandating the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment to decisively combat terrorist groups nationwide.
The directive followed last Friday’s deadly attack in Darajamal community, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, where Boko Haram insurgents killed several civilians and soldiers.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a condolence message released by his spokesman Stanley Nkwocha, reaffirmed Tinubu’s order for a comprehensive review of military strategies. He said the president had approved the acquisition of additional drones while urging security agencies to intensify their operations.
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, visited Darajamal on Saturday to commiserate with bereaved families, including relatives of fallen soldiers.
Describing the incident as a “profound loss to both the state and the nation,” Shettima said:
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”
The Vice President further expressed faith in the Armed Forces’ capacity to surmount security threats and highlighted ongoing discussions on the possible establishment of state police. He stressed that President Tinubu believes specialized units familiar with local terrain and culture are essential to addressing grassroots-level insecurity.
Shettima also assured the Borno government and affected communities of the Federal Government’s continued support, offering prayers for the families of the victims.
