President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday summoned the immediate past Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Ibas, who arrived at about 5:50 pm dressed in brown native attire, was accompanied by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayede.

Earlier, Edun had entered the Villa alone but left briefly before returning with a file in hand, underscoring the weight of the meeting.

Ibas served as sole administrator of Rivers State for six months under emergency rule declared in March. He vacated office on September 17 following President Tinubu’s directive reinstating suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly.

During its first plenary after the emergency rule ended, the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, announced plans to probe government spending during Ibas’s tenure.

According to the Assembly’s resolution, the investigation aims “to explore the process of knowing what transpired during the emergency rule with regard to spending from the consolidated revenue fund for the award of contracts and other expenditure.”

Ibas has since dismissed the probe, rejecting any attempt to scrutinize financial activities during his stewardship.

Records show Rivers State received at least ₦254.37 billion from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between March and August 2025 while Ibas was in charge.
