Tinubu to Attend G20 Leaders Summit in South Africa, AU-EU Meeting in Angola

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja for South Africa and Angola to attend the G20 Leaders Summit in Johannesburg and the AU-EU Summit in Luanda. The visits, scheduled for November 22–25, will focus on global economic cooperation, climate action, development, and bilateral engagements.

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja on Wednesday for a two-country visit that will take him to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola.

His first stop will be Johannesburg, where he is scheduled to participate in the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit. After the summit, he will proceed to Luanda for the AU-EU Summit.

Tinubu was invited to the G20 meeting by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa, who currently chairs the G20. The Nigerian leader had previously received a similar invitation from Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during Brazil’s presidency of the group in 2024.

The 20th G20 Summit will hold from Saturday, November 22 to Sunday, November 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, with leaders from the world’s 20 largest economies, as well as the European Union, African Union, and global financial institutions, in attendance.

This year’s theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will guide discussions across three plenary sessions focusing on:
– Inclusive and sustainable growth
– Trade, development financing, and debt issues
– Disaster risk reduction
– Climate change and just energy transitions
– Food systems
– Critical minerals, decent work, and artificial intelligence

President Tinubu is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings to advance the objectives of his Renewed Hope Agenda and address regional and global issues related to peace, security, and development.

Following the G20 Summit, Tinubu will join African Union and European Union leaders in Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit taking place from November 24 to 25, 2025.

The meeting will bring together heads of state, young leaders, innovators, and civil society groups to discuss shared challenges and explore solutions on climate change, inclusive development, infrastructure, the digital economy, manufacturing, agribusiness, and the creative sector.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials, including:
– Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar
– Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun
– Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake
– Minister of Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole
– Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed

The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of both meetings.
