The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially declare open the 2025 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC), scheduled to take place in Abuja from November 3–6, 2025.

In a joint statement on Sunday, NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, said this year’s conference will focus on the theme “Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.”

The sub-theme will address “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027.”

The Guild said the annual gathering will provide an avenue to examine the role of editors in strengthening democratic governance, promoting national unity, and addressing challenges facing the media in today’s complex political and social environment.

According to the statement, “the conference will explore the challenges and opportunities facing editors in promoting democratic values and national cohesion, as well as identify best practices and strategies to achieve these goals.”

Highlighting the importance of the meeting, the Guild noted that President Tinubu, opposition leaders, and other key stakeholders have consistently emphasized the media’s role in fostering unity across Nigeria’s diverse political, ethnic, cultural, and religious groups.

“In the face of socio-economic challenges, there is need for unity in diversity, shared values, inclusion, dialogue and understanding, which would go a long way in bringing about national cohesion,” the Guild stated.

The opening ceremony will be attended by President Tinubu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris; other ministers, governors, members of the diplomatic corps, and private sector leaders.

The four-day event will feature a keynote address and several panel discussions, including:

Over 500 editors and media executives from Nigeria and abroad are expected to attend, marking only the second time in 12 years that the event is being hosted in the Federal Capital Territory.

The Guild described ANEC as an annual platform where editors deliberate on national issues with significant social, economic, and political impact.

“This year’s conference is designed to help editors and media executives explore ways to promote national development and cohesion through responsible journalism, while holding leaders accountable and fostering inclusivity,” the statement added.

The 2025 ANEC comes just four months after the Guild’s Biennial National Convention in Enugu State, where new executives were elected.
