Tinubu Vows to Crush Terrorism, Says Nigeria Won’t Be Intimidated by Trump’s Threat
President Tinubu says Nigeria will not bow to intimidation following Donald Trump’s military threat, pledging to decisively defeat terrorism and protect national sovereignty through courage and global partnership.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his government’s determination to end terrorism in Nigeria, declaring that the country will not be bullied or distracted by external pressures, including recent remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who hinted at possible military intervention over alleged attacks on Christians.
In a statement posted on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, Tinubu said Nigeria remains resolute in defending its sovereignty and advancing its national interest on the global stage.
“We face challenges head-on and remain steadfast in our commitment to engage partners and champion Nigeria’s interests on the diplomatic front,” the President stated.
He emphasized that Nigeria will continue to act with “calm, clarity, and purpose” in international relations, even amid mounting foreign scrutiny.
Addressing the nation’s ongoing security challenges, Tinubu vowed that terrorism would be defeated once and for all, stressing that the government would not relent in its efforts to secure every part of the country.
“We are indeed faced with terrorism — a challenge Nigeria has battled for nearly two decades — and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle. Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle,” he said.
The President reaffirmed his confidence in the armed forces and intelligence community, commending their courage and sacrifices in defending national unity.
“With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail. Your commitment is our strength in the fight against terror,” Tinubu said.
He also urged Nigeria’s international allies to continue their support, saying that collaboration remains essential to sustaining progress made against insurgent groups.
“We urge our allies to stand firmly with us as we amplify our fight against terrorism. We have made significant progress in the past two years, and we will decisively eliminate this threat,” he added.
Tinubu’s remarks come amid global reactions to Trump’s controversial statement threatening military action in response to alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria — a comment that has drawn criticism from diplomatic circles and security analysts who view it as a potential interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
