Tiwa Savage: “I was the victim, yet people blamed me” – Singer recalls leaked video scandal
Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage opens up about her 2021 leaked video, saying she was unfairly blamed despite being the victim. She recalls harsh backlash from Western media and adds a humorous twist to the painful experience.
Nigerian Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has revisited the controversy surrounding the leak of her intimate video in 2021, saying she was unfairly judged and treated as though she was at fault, despite being the victim.
Speaking in a recent interview, the award-winning singer recounted the heavy criticism she faced at the time, particularly from influential voices in the West.
“A lot of people from America and the UK, they think she’s capping and she’s just trying to get sympathy,” Tiwa Savage said.
She explained that the backlash went beyond casual comments from the public.
“People went out not just regular people, people that had platforms were like. They were quite horrible,” she revealed.
Expressing her disappointment, the singer added:
“They blamed me. They said because I was getting older in the industry, maybe I was doing it to be relevant.”
However, Tiwa Savage also injected some humour into the painful memory, saying if the video had been deliberate, it would have looked completely different.
“I would have had better lighting, better lingerie, my facial expression would have been on point,” she quipped.
