Tompolo Meets Jonathan in Bayelsa to Strengthen Niger Delta Peace
Niger Delta leader Tompolo met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa to discuss peace, security, and regional development. Talks focused on sustaining the amnesty programme and consolidating stability in the oil-rich region.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday hosted Niger Delta leader and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, at his residence in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The closed-door meeting, according to sources, focused on sustaining peace and strengthening security cooperation across the oil-rich Niger Delta region.
Tompolo, who oversees the surveillance of critical oil facilities through Tantita Security Services, arrived in Otuoke alongside the company’s Managing Director, High Chief Kestin Pondi, and the 2023 APC deputy governorship candidate in Bayelsa, Hon. Joshua Maciver, among other associates.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Jonathan said he invited Tompolo for consultations in response to public concerns and the need to preserve the stability currently enjoyed in the region.
“Since I left office, we have not seen each other. Tompolo is one young man who has played a key role in the unity of our people,” Jonathan said. “There are issues people have been complaining about, so I decided to call him so that we can have conversations to ensure the Niger Delta remains peaceful. He has contributed significantly to peace and the protection of oil installations.”
Earlier in the day, Tompolo made a rare public appearance in Yenagoa, where he inspected the ongoing construction of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide Secretariat near the Ijaw House.
Sources familiar with the discussions revealed that Jonathan and Tompolo also deliberated on ways to sustain the Presidential Amnesty Programme and deepen collaboration among regional stakeholders to consolidate the gains of peace and security in the Niger Delta.
Observers have described the visit as a strategic move toward renewed dialogue and lasting stability in the region, amid growing calls for inclusive engagement and equitable development across the Niger Delta.
