Troops Arrest Suspected Kidnapping Aide in Taraba, Intensify Search for Missing Resident
Nigerian Army troops under Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected kidnapping accomplice in Taraba’s Wukari LGA. Authorities say the suspect may be linked to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, who remains missing. Security forces continue intensive investigations and search efforts.
Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have made a major breakthrough in ongoing security efforts in Taraba State with the arrest of a man allegedly linked to kidnapping operations in Wukari Local Government Area.
The Brigade’s Spokesman, Lieutenant Umar Mohammed, confirmed that on 22 November 2025, soldiers acting on credible intelligence apprehended Mr. Umar Musa Geyi at Jandei–Kulamu in Wukari LGA.
According to Mohammed, the suspect had been under surveillance and is believed to be connected to a criminal network responsible for multiple illegal activities in the area.
Preliminary findings indicate a potential connection between Geyi and the kidnapping of Alhaji Jano, a Fulani resident abducted on 13 November 2025, who has not yet been found. Security sources disclosed that troops intercepted the suspect while he was allegedly on a phone call discussing the missing victim and referencing a ransom. Authorities stressed that all allegations remain under investigation.
Geyi is currently in custody as operatives work to verify information, identify other suspects, and trace the whereabouts of the kidnapped victim.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their rapid action and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, rescuing victims, and improving security across Taraba State.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supplying reliable intelligence to security agencies.
