Troops Seize Cache of Arms and Ammunition in Plateau Community Raid
Nigerian Army troops under Operation Enduring Peace have recovered rifles, pistols, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition in a Barkin Ladi raid, following intelligence on bandit arms stockpiling. Authorities vow to track down fleeing suspects and curb illegal arms trade.
Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and the Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP), have uncovered a major cache of weapons and ammunition during a coordinated raid in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation, according to the army, followed credible intelligence reports indicating that bandits were stockpiling arms in the area as part of an illegal weapons distribution network.
In a statement released by Major Samson Zhakom, the Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, the troops carried out a successful raid on the hideout of a notorious bandit located in Rawaya Village, near Kazok in Barkin Ladi.
“Although the suspect managed to escape before the troops arrived, a detailed search of the hideout led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition,” Major Zhakom stated.
Items recovered included:
- Two AK-47 rifles
- One G3 rifle
- One revolver pistol
- Four AK-47 magazines
- Three G3 magazines
- 1,198 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition
- Four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition
- Three mobile phones and other assorted materials
Major Zhakom confirmed that the recovered arms and items are now in military custody for further investigation.
He added that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and his accomplices, reaffirming the military’s determination to dismantle criminal networks and halt the spread of illegal weapons in the state.
“Operation Enduring Peace remains resolute in its mandate to ensure safety and stability across the Joint Operations Area,” Zhakom said.
“Troops will continue to take decisive actions against all criminal elements threatening peace and security in Plateau State.”
