Trump Says World Unsafe Without US Control of Greenland After Nobel Peace Prize Snub

President Trump tells Norway he no longer feels obliged to “think purely of peace” after missing out on the Nobel Peace Prize and reiterates that “the world is not secure” unless the US has total control of Greenland in a letter to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

US President Donald Trump told Norway’s prime minister that he no longer felt he needed to think “purely of peace” after failing to win the Nobel Peace Prize, in a message published on Monday.

Trump also reiterated his controversial desire for the United States to take control of Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, which he argued was necessary for global security.

“Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,” Trump wrote to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. “Although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.”

Støre’s office confirmed the authenticity of the correspondence, and the Norwegian leader stressed that the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by an independent committee, not the Norwegian government.

“I have clearly explained, including to President Trump, what is well known — the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee,” Støre said.

In his message, Trump questioned Denmark’s ability to protect Greenland from rival powers, saying: “Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China.”

He also challenged Denmark’s “right of ownership,” asserting: “There are no written documents, it’s only that a boat landed there hundreds of years ago…” before adding: “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.”

Trump had actively campaigned for last year’s Nobel Peace Prize, claiming credit for ending eight wars. However, the award went to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who collected her prize in Oslo following her escape from Venezuela by boat and later dedicated the medal to Trump.

Despite Machado’s gesture, Norwegian authorities reiterated that the award cannot be transferred or reassigned by recipients.
