US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will jointly chair a Gaza peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday, Egypt’s presidency announced on Saturday.

According to the statement, the high-level meeting — scheduled for Monday afternoon — will bring together leaders from over 20 countries to discuss pathways toward ending the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The summit’s goal, the presidency said, is “to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and usher in a new era of regional security and stability.”

Among those expected to attend are UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez. French President Emmanuel Macron has also confirmed his participation.

There was, however, no confirmation on whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would attend the summit.

Meanwhile, Hamas announced it would not participate in the talks. In an interview with AFP, Hossam Badran, a senior member of Hamas’s political bureau, said the group “will not be involved,” noting that during previous negotiations, Hamas had engaged “principally through Qatari and Egyptian mediators.”
