The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed recent reports claiming that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has surrendered to the military.

Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, clarified the situation regarding Turji’s status.

“Simple answer to the question about terrorist leader, Bello Turji; Turji has not surrendered, we are still on the look out for him,” Kangye stated.

Turji, who is wanted for orchestrating numerous deadly attacks across communities in Zamfara and Sokoto states, remains at large. He has long been identified as a key figure in the ongoing insecurity plaguing Nigeria’s North-West region.

Recent reports had suggested that Turji surrendered his arms and released 32 kidnap victims following a peace initiative mediated by Islamic clerics in Zamfara State. The military, however, has now debunked those claims.
