Two AAUA Students Arrested for Alleged Conspiracy and Sexual Assault of Undergraduate in Ondo
Police in Ondo State have arrested two Adekunle Ajasin University students for allegedly drugging and assaulting a 20-year-old female undergraduate after luring her to a friend’s room. Authorities say both suspects confessed and will face prosecution as investigations continue.
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), over their alleged involvement in the drugging and assault of a 20-year-old female undergraduate.
According to police sources, the victim had visited the residence of her long-time friend, Queen Sodo, a 19-year-old fellow student, after being invited there. Their friendship reportedly dates back to secondary school and continued into university.
The source explained that the victim accepted a drink offered by Sodo, believing she could trust her. The drink was later discovered to have been laced with drugs, causing the victim to lose consciousness.
“Observing that the victim had become incapacitated, Queen Sodo reportedly stepped out, called in her male co-conspirator, and kept watch while the crime was being committed,” the source added.
A neighbour who heard unusual sounds from the room intervened and rescued the victim. She was found unconscious and in a compromised state with the male suspect and was immediately taken for urgent medical care.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed that the victim had been referred to a specialist hospital, where she is receiving treatment and recuperating.
Olayinka said the two suspects confessed to their involvement and the roles each played in the incident. He added that exhibits were recovered from the scene, including the bottle containing the drug-laced drink, which is being sent for toxicology analysis. Both the suspects and the victim reportedly identified the items.
He noted that the suspects remain in lawful custody and will be transferred to the Gender Desk Office in Akure for further investigation before being charged to court.
“The Ondo State Police Command reassures the public that offenders, regardless of any familiarity with their victims, will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law,” Olayinka stated.
He further urged parents and guardians to advise their children on exercising caution in relationships, noting that even long-standing friendships can be exploited for criminal purposes.
