The attack occurred at the Government Field, where Obesere and his band were set to entertain guests. During the incident, one of his band members was reportedly stabbed while attempting to fend off the assailants.

“After Alhaji Abass Akande Obesere (Papa) concluded his performance and we were preparing to leave, large groups of touts surrounded the area. One group targeted me because I was carrying the bag of money. Despite efforts to leave peacefully, my principal and I were aggressively confronted. The assailants demanded the bag; when I refused, a violent struggle ensued. During the attack, I was beaten, my shoulder dislocated, and struck with a knife while attempting to get into the car. The attackers overpowered me and took the bag. Meanwhile, another group continued to manhandle Obesere even after he attempted to placate them with money. I later guided him into our vehicle, and we left for safety and medical attention.”

Obesere condemned the act, calling it “criminal and violent behavior” and urged authorities to investigate. He also appealed to fans and event organizers to respect the safety of performers, their teams, and mourners.

Ondo State’s Okitipupa Council Chairman, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, described the attack as “unfortunate and unacceptable.” His Press Secretary, Tosin Ayejusunle, confirmed that two suspects linked to the incident had been arrested. Ogunsakin has reportedly reached out to Obesere’s team to address the situation and prevent a recurrence.

State police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka also confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, praising security operatives for their swift response and professionalism in restoring order.
