UBA Clarifies Fire Incident, Confirms Head Office Not Affected
United Bank for Africa (UBA) has clarified that its Marina head office was not affected by Tuesday’s fire, confirming the minor incident occurred at a Broad Street branch and was quickly contained.

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has debunked claims of a fire outbreak at its head office, UBA House, Marina, Lagos, clarifying that the minor incident occurred at one of its branches on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
In a statement issued Tuesday night, the bank said:
“We are aware of the fire incident at a building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, which incidentally houses one of our many branches.
“As against reports on online and social media, the affected building is not the UBA House, Marina, the bank’s head office. We have ensured the safety and well-being of our staff and customers in the branch.”
UBA advised the public to direct all enquiries to its official communication channels for further clarification.
A senior emergency management official, who spoke to NAN on condition of anonymity, described the situation as a minor incident that resulted mainly in smoke within Afriland Tower, the six-storey building housing the UBA branch.
“By the time responders got there, even the UBA staff had taken care of it. It was more smoke than fire, and it had been quickly contained,” the official explained.
