UNN Bans Evening Social Events After Fatal Campus Incident
The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has banned all social events on campus after 6 p.m. following the death of businessman Chiebonam Nweze during a student bonfire night.

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has prohibited all social activities on campus from extending beyond 6 p.m., following a recent tragedy linked to a student-organized event.
The directive was issued in a statement signed by Mr. Inya Egwu, Acting Public Relations Officer of the institution.
According to the university, the measure became necessary after the September 12 incident in which businessman Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death. Nweze had attended a bonfire night organized by the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies students’ association.
“Henceforth, the UNN management has directed that all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit. Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m.,” the statement read.
The management noted that the bonfire event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighboring community, who triggered violence.
Reassuring the public, UNN stated it remains committed to maintaining a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors, adding that measures are being put in place to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
