Unveiling the Heart of Academic Excellence: An Excursion to the Usmanu Danfodio University’s Knowledge Hubs” -By Maude Maryam Abubakar

On Friday, 21 February 2025, our class under the instructions and supervision of our course Lecturer Sir Abdulhakim, embarked on an excursion to three vital institutions that form the backbone of our university’s academic excellence: the Academic Printing Press, Academic Publishing Center, and the university main Library.
Our first stop was the Academic Printing Press located beside the UDUS general mosque, where we witnessed the impressive machinery that churns out high-quality prints of our academic materials. From textbooks to research papers, the printing press plays a crucial role in disseminating knowledge throughout the university. We were fascinated by the precision and attention to detail that goes into producing each print.

Next, we visited the Academic Publishing Center located beside the faculty of Law UDUS, which serves as a hub for scholarly publishing and research dissemination. Here, we learned about the rigorous process of publishing academic journals, books, and conference proceedings. The center’s team of experts walked us through the editing, proofreading, and design stages that ensure the highest standards of academic publishing.

At the Academic Printing Press and Publishing Center, the management explained to us various machines and their uses some of which are The KORD machine which papers are inserted into to start the printing process, the Direct image printerprinters (DI) one that prints 85 pages per minute and the other that prints 45 pages per minute, the camera machine used for snapping image, the light table for design, the straw board, laminating machine, chess, cutting machine, etc.

This excursion not only broadened our understanding of the university’s academic infrastructure but also deepened our appreciation for the dedicated staff and faculty who work tirelessly behind the scenes. As students, we are fortunate to have access to these world-class resources, and we left with a renewed commitment to utilize them to their fullest potential.

The experience was a resounding reminder that the pursuit of knowledge is a collective effort, and that our university’s Academic Printing Press and Academic Publishing Center are the unsung heroes that make it all possible.
