Defending champions Manchester City will go on break with a 1-2 defeat against Brentford at Etihad on Saturday as players travel to Qatar for the World Cup tournament.

Brentford pressurised Pep Guardiola’s side and it paid off when Ivan Toney scored in fifteen minutes to give the visitors the lead.

Citizens kept asking questions and had three potential penalties ruled out by VAR within 90 seconds at 27 minutes of the game.

Phil Foden equalised to make 1-1 for the hosts scoring at 45+1 minutes before the game went to the break.

Manchester City dominated the game with a couple of chances missed from Kevin De Bryne and Erling Haaland.

The hosts got punished, however, when the Bees had a counter-attack which saw Toney converting Josh Dasilva’s pass at 90+8 minutes.

Toney has scored ten times in fourteen games for Thomas Frank’s side this season.

City’s defeat will see Arsenal top the league table at Christmas for the first time in ten years.
