US Approves $825 Million Missile Deal for Ukraine with European Funding Support
The purchase will be funded by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, with additional support provided through a loan guarantee from the United States.
The United States has approved the potential sale of 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition (ERAM) air-launched missiles to Ukraine, in a deal valued at $825 million, according to a statement released Thursday by the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
The purchase will be funded by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway, with additional support provided through a loan guarantee from the United States.
“This proposed sale will improve Ukraine’s capability to meet current and future threats by further equipping it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions,” the DSCA stated.
The agency also noted that the arms transfer aligns with broader U.S. foreign policy and national security goals:
“It will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe.”
The U.S. State Department approved the sale, but it still requires Congressional approval before it can proceed.
The move comes amid ongoing tensions as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, launched by President Vladimir Putin in 2022, continues with no immediate resolution in sight despite international pressure.
During President Joe Biden’s administration, the U.S. committed over $65 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. However, Donald Trump, now seeking a return to the presidency, has been critical of sustained aid to Kyiv and has urged greater European involvement in future military funding efforts.
