The United States has supplied Nigeria with key military equipment as part of efforts to reinforce security collaboration between both nations.

The delivery was confirmed on Tuesday by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which oversees US military activities on the continent.

In a post shared on X, AFRICOM said the military supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian partners in Abuja.

“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” the command stated.

AFRICOM did not reveal details about the type or quantity of equipment delivered.

The development comes against the backdrop of intensified defence cooperation between Nigeria and the United States. On Christmas night, US forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State, targeting Islamic State–linked fighters accused of collaborating with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local bandit networks.

Those strikes followed diplomatic tensions triggered by claims of violence and persecution against Christians in Nigeria. US President Donald Trump had described the situation as “genocide,” a claim the Nigerian government firmly denied.
