US Revokes Over 100,000 Visas Amid Crackdown on Foreign Nationals
The US has revoked over 100,000 visas, including student and work permits, targeting foreign nationals with criminal records or legal violations, as part of a wider deportation campaign under President Trump.
The United States government has revoked more than 100,000 visas in the first year of President Donald Trump’s second term, the State Department announced on Monday via its official X account.
The visa cancellations included roughly 8,000 student visas and 2,500 specialized work permits. The department described the move as part of a broad crackdown on foreign nationals with criminal records or legal violations.
“The Trump administration has no higher priority than protecting American citizens and upholding American sovereignty. We will continue to deport these thugs to keep America safe,” State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said.
Pigott added that “thousands” of the visas were revoked due to crimes including assault and drunk driving, and said the revocations were part of a larger campaign of mass deportations carried out by a surge of federal agents.
The administration has also tightened visa vetting, including screening social media activity of visitors.
President Trump began his second term on January 20, 2025, on an anti-migrant platform. According to the Department of Homeland Security, his administration has deported over 605,000 people, leaving 2.5 million others in the country without resolution.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio defended the revocations of visas for students who protested against Israel, stating that U.S. law allows blocking entry to foreigners perceived as opposing the country’s foreign policy.
