Micky van de Ven scored twice as Tottenham Hotspur climbed to third in the Premier League with a commanding 3–0 victory over Everton, ending the hosts’ unbeaten run at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

Thomas Frank’s men maintained their strong away form thanks to the Dutch defender’s first-half double and a late header from Pape Sarr.

Everton had gone five games unbeaten in all competitions at their state-of-the-art home since moving from Goodison Park over the summer. But injury-hit Spurs halted that record with just their second win in five league matches.

“It’s crazy. I never score two goals in one game. It’s an unbelievable feeling,” said Van de Ven, who was the unexpected star of the show.

Despite recent struggles at home, Tottenham now boast the best away record in the Premier League this season. Their fans, frustrated after a goalless Champions League draw at Monaco midweek, found reason to cheer amid torrential Merseyside rain.

Frank’s pragmatic approach, built on structure and set-piece strength, contrasts with the attacking flair once championed by former boss Ange Postecoglou. Yet his results mark a sharp turnaround from last season’s 17th-place finish.

“Set-pieces are so crucial. Right now, Arsenal are on track for the title from set-pieces. We worked hard on it, and so did Micky,” Frank said. “Any 3–0 away win in the Premier League is super impressive. The first half, we controlled the ball and passed well; the second was more of a dog fight. The season is still young, but we’re building a clean-sheet mentality, and that brings points on the road.”

Jack Grealish returned for Everton after missing the defeat to his parent club, Manchester City, and nearly gave the hosts an early lead, only for Pedro Porro to clear his shot off the line.

Spurs went ahead in the 19th minute when Mohammed Kudus’s corner was headed back across goal by Rodrigo Bentancur and turned in by Van de Ven.

James Garner came close to levelling soon after, forcing a fine save from Guglielmo Vicario, while Jake O’Brien thought he had equalised—only for VAR to rule out the goal for offside against Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye.

Van de Ven struck again in first-half stoppage time, glancing home Porro’s corner past Jordan Pickford to double the lead.

Richarlison, coming off the bench against his former club, squandered a chance to score before Sarr sealed the result in the 89th minute—heading home from close range after Richarlison’s nod-down.

Tottenham now sit five points behind league leaders Arsenal and remain firmly in the title conversation.
