VIDEO: Court to Deliver Judgment Nov 20 in Nnamdi Kanu’s Terrorism Trial
A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20 for judgment in IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu’s terrorism trial after he failed to open his defence and filed a motion challenging the court’s jurisdiction.
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20, 2025, for judgment in the ongoing terrorism trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Justice James Omotosho scheduled the date after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days allotted by the court. Instead, the IPOB leader filed a fresh motion challenging both the competence of the charges and the court’s jurisdiction to try him.
At Friday’s sitting, the court initially stood down proceedings for an hour after Kanu — who has chosen to represent himself following the disengagement of his legal team — informed the judge of his intention to present his defence.
However, rather than proceeding with his defence, Kanu filed a motion arguing that his prosecution was invalid because it was based on a repealed law.
He maintained that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, under which the seven-count charge was filed, “no longer exists in law,” and therefore could not form the basis of his trial.
Justice Omotosho, after hearing arguments, adjourned the case for judgment on November 20.
