VIDEO: Judge Orders Security to Remove Nnamdi Kanu After Courtroom Outburst
Tension erupted at the Federal High Court in Abuja as Justice James Omotosho ordered security to remove IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu following disruptions over his written address. The court dismissed his fresh motions and rejected his bail request ahead of judgment.
There was tension at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday as Justice James Omotosho directed security operatives to forcefully remove detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, from the courtroom after he repeatedly disrupted proceedings.
Kanu insisted that the court could not deliver judgment in the terrorism case filed against him by the Federal Government without allowing him to submit a written address. His persistent demands led him to shout at the judge, insisting that the court must “show him where it was written in the law” that he was not entitled to file the document.
The interruptions forced Justice Omotosho to temporarily halt proceedings while security personnel escorted Kanu out of the courtroom.
Earlier, the judge had dismissed a series of fresh motions filed by Kanu, noting that they raised issues he had previously presented. The court also rejected his application to refer the case to the Court of Appeal, stressing that Section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 prohibits a stay of proceedings in criminal trials.
Kanu’s renewed request for bail was similarly turned down. Justice Omotosho stated that some of the issues raised by the defendant would be addressed in the final judgment.
However, as the judge attempted to begin reading the judgment, Kanu again objected loudly, arguing that the court lacked jurisdiction to proceed without accepting his written address.
