Why we arrested Joe Ajaero -DSS

The arrest of Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has prompted a response from a source within the Department of State Service’s operations.

He said he had no comment on Ajaero’s detention in an interview with our journalist, but he asked that our correspondent submit an official request for comment to the secret police’s email address.

Recall that Ajaero was taken into custody by the DSS on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to reports, Ajaero was going to take a jet to the UK for a formal assignment when he was hauled up by DSS.

But reacting to his arrest, DSS source said: “A DSS official who was contacted by our correspondent at 1:03 pm on Monday, said he had no comment on the arrest of Ajaero but requested our correspondent to send and official request for comment to the email address of the secret police.

“It will be recalled that the DSS last week decided to scale back on Media visibility and opted to concentrate on its core mandate of covert operations to enhance national security.

The erstwhile director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Dr. Peter Afunanya was redeployed to continue his work elsewhere”.
