The Sabon Gari Branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has officially passed a vote of no confidence in the leadership of key political figures in Sabon Gari Local Government due to their lack of involvement in youth activities.

This decision was announced during a press conference on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, led by the NYCN Coordinator, Comr. Jibril Suleiman Salihi.

The leaders targeted by this vote of no confidence include Engineer Muhammad I. Usman, Honorable Chairman of Sabon Gari Local Government; Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi, Member Representing Sabon Gari Federal Constituency; and Hon. Nasiru Idris, Member Representing Sabon Gari Constituency in Kaduna State Assembly.

The NYCN accused these leaders of consistently failing to engage with the youth, despite numerous invitations to participate in youth events and initiatives.

This perceived disengagement has led to significant discontent among the youth, who feel neglected and disenfranchised by those they consider crucial to their development and the future of Sabon Gari.

“Your lack of participation and engagement has led to a sense of neglect and disenfranchisement among the youth, who are critical to the future of our Sabon Gari Local Government. We urge you to reconsider your stance and abide by the existing rules, laws, and regulations that mandate your involvement in youth matters,” the NYCN said.

The NYCN has called on these leaders to take immediate action by attending youth-focused events, supporting initiatives that promote youth development in Sabon Gari, and engaging in dialogue with youth representatives as required by the laws governing their positions.

The council warned that failure to comply with these requests would result in further actions, including public petitions for recall, advocacy campaigns highlighting their lack of engagement, and formal recall processes as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

“We should not only be active during politicking and electioneering but also in delivering governance results. Therefore, we request that you take immediate action to attend youth-focused events, meetings, and engagements; support initiatives promoting youth development in Sabon Gari Local Government Area; and engage in dialogue with youth representatives, as is done at all levels of government.”

The NYCN’s grievances are particularly focused on Engineer Muhammad I. Usman, who is accused of consistently being absent from youth events and failing to allocate resources for youth development programs.

Hon. Sadiq Ango Abdullahi and Hon. Nasiru Idris are also singled out for failing to respond to youth-led initiatives and for not supporting youth empowerment projects.

In addition to these concerns, the NYCN urged Hon. Jamilu Abubakar Albany, Member Representing Basawa Constituency, to ensure full participation in youth activities, noting some observed neglect in this area as well.
