Wike, Fayose Mock PDP Expulsion: ‘Ibadan Convention Was Just Detty December in November’
Nyesom Wike and Ayo Fayose dismiss their PDP expulsion as a joke, with aide Lere Olayinka saying the Ibadan convention was merely “Detty December in November.” Comes amid court orders halting the PDP gathering.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the FCT, has dismissed the expulsion of his principals—Nyesom Wike and former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose—from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP—saying the decision amounted to nothing more than “Detty December in November.”
In a statement sent to Vanguard on Saturday, Olayinka ridiculed the Ibadan gathering, claiming PDP members had simply travelled there to begin their December festivities early. He said whatever pronouncements emerged from the event should be regarded as comments made in the spirit of a social party rather than a serious political decision.
“They went to Ibadan to start their own Detty December in November. When people decide to start their Dirty December early, one can’t help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths,” he stated.
According to Olayinka, the attendees were there merely for “social enjoyment,” adding that after indulging in drinks, they were “free to say anything,” suggesting their declarations—including the expulsions—should not be taken seriously.
Earlier, Vanguard reported that the PDP National Convention in Ibadan voted unanimously to expel Wike, Fayose, factional national chairman Samuel Anyanwu, and several other party officials over alleged anti-party activities. The motion was moved by party founding elder Chief Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State governor Bala Mohammed.
The expulsions came despite multiple court orders halting the PDP convention, including one issued just a day earlier. Several party leaders, including a former Senate President, had urged the Damagum-led faction to obey the court rulings to avoid actions that could further destabilize the party.
