Wike Flags Off Major Abuja Road Project, Announces Rehabilitation of 40 More Schools
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has flagged off construction of the Transit Way road in Abuja and announced plans to rehabilitate 40 more schools, adding to over 70 ongoing education projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday announced the planned rehabilitation of at least 40 more schools across the territory, shortly after flagging off construction of a major road linking Wuse District to the Central Area.
At the ceremony marking the commencement of work on the Transit Way (N2) and two bridges, Wike said the new education initiative will add to more than 70 ongoing school projects, of which 45 have already been completed and furnished.
“We are going to start again the total rehabilitation of not less than 40 schools after this road flag-off. That will add to the 70 schools already ongoing, with almost 45 completed and well-furnished. Education is also something we must give priority to,” Wike said.
He emphasized that the FCT Administration is aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to ensure balanced development across all sectors, with education, healthcare, and infrastructure given top priority.
Highlighting the role of road projects in boosting investor confidence, Wike revealed that a Dubai-based investor plans to replicate the City Walk in Abuja due to recent improvements in the city’s infrastructure.
He added that flag-offs and commissioning exercises will continue until October 20, with additional infrastructure projects scheduled for inauguration in November.
FCT Minister of State, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, described the road project as a milestone for connectivity, praising the Renewed Hope Agenda for delivering results and commending the National Assembly for its budgetary support.
