Wike Warns: Peter Obi’s Return Could Destroy PDP
Reports suggest some PDP leaders are reaching out to Obi—who contested the 2023 presidential election on the Labour Party’s platform—with the aim of making him the party’s candidate for the 2027 polls. Obi has recently reiterated his pledge to serve only one term if elected, promising to transform Nigeria within four years.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has cautioned against moves to bring former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, back to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), warning that such a step would spell doom for the party.
Key PDP figures, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, have openly admitted that efforts are underway to convince Obi to return.
However, speaking during a media chat on Monday, Wike dismissed the move as hypocritical and dangerous.
“To what? Bringing Obi to where? You want to kill the party? Obi that was abusing the party, saying it is rotten—so the party is now good enough for him? Ambition can make people even go to Satan’s house,” Wike declared.
He insisted that Obi’s return would erode what remains of the PDP’s credibility and ideological foundation.
“If you want to destroy this party, dare it—bring Obi. There’s no way he will come back just because of ambition. No more ideology, no longer principle,” the minister stressed.
