Wike’s Camp Urges PDP Members to Boycott Ibadan Convention, Citing Fresh Court Order
Nyesom Wike’s faction of the PDP has warned members nationwide to avoid the planned Ibadan convention, citing a new court order that voids the exercise. Acting Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor called the event a “charade” and urged members to await party directives.
The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Tuesday as the faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, called on party members nationwide to shun the planned national convention in Ibadan.
According to the group, a new court ruling stemming from a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has rendered the exercise invalid and unenforceable.
Speaking with Vanguard in Abuja, the PDP Acting National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, described the Ibadan convention as “an early Christmas party” that would ultimately not hold.
“Well, I’ve told you before. What they are doing in Ibadan is just an early Christmas party. But again, even the early Christmas party is still not going to hold,” Osadolor said.
He claimed that the recent court pronouncement had further discredited the planned convention, arguing that the party should not proceed until all internal disputes are resolved.
“I’m sure you are aware of the court pronouncements from the suit filed by former governor Sule Lamido earlier today. That has also told them that the early Christmas party is not even properly constituted and organised,” he added.
The youth leader advised PDP members across the country to ignore invitations to the Ibadan gathering, warning against spending time and resources on what he called a legally baseless event.
“So, I want to use this medium to tell all PDP faithful and supporters across the country that in their bid to look forward to a better party and a convention, they should not fall for the trap of risking their lives on the road or by air to Ibadan to waste money, time, and other resources,” Osadolor said.
He dismissed the planned event as futile, saying, “Whatever they are doing in Ibadan is a charade. And the governor of Oyo State knows in his heart that he is just lighting a candle in the wind, and it will not stand.”
Osadolor maintained that Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Muhammed had already suspended the convention pending further deliberations by the National Working Committee (NWC).
“It remains so until the National Working Committee and other stakeholders of the party meet and give further directive. For now, that cycle of Ibadan has been put on hold,” he noted.
According to him, the latest High Court judgment reinforced the suspension. “It has been put on hold by one of the highest courts of the land, which is the High Court. So, those court judgments have vacated and the party pronouncements are also reversed,” he stated.
Efforts to reach the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba—aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde’s faction supporting the convention scheduled for November 15 and 16—were unsuccessful, as calls to his phone went unanswered at press time.
