A coalition of youth associations in Osun State has strongly condemned the continued withholding of local government allocations by the Federal Government, stating that the move amounts to punishing ordinary residents rather than politicians.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, the coalition’s spokesperson, Babawale Jamiu, decried the impact of the seizure, saying it has paralysed grassroots governance across the state.

“For 185 days, our Local Government allocations have been trapped in Abuja, and with every passing day our fear increases that our schools will weaken, our hospitals will fail, our roads will die, and our dreams will dim. Not because government is not responsible, but because it is being disempowered,” Jamiu said.

He described the situation as a “democratic disaster and a governance mismalady,” warning that withholding the funds is deliberately harming community development and basic services that citizens rely on.

“By keeping Osun’s Local Government allocations trapped in Abuja, the Federal Government is sending only one message: They want farmers in Ejigbo and rural areas to be stranded with bad roads, watching their harvests rot. They want teachers and local workers in Iwo and other LGs to sink into despair,” he lamented.

Jamiu urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene immediately, appealing to his known pro-youth and people-centric disposition.

“We know this cannot be the intention of your youth-friendly government. This is not about politics. This is not about party lines. This is about people. About justice. About democracy.”

“And so, we end with one cry, one prayer, one demand: Your Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, please release Osun’s allocations. Let our Local Governments live. Let us breathe,” he concluded.

The coalition also called on the Federal Government to revive and fully operationalise the National Youth Development Centre in Ode-Omu, Osun State, to further support youth empowerment and capacity building in the region.
