Olu Agunloye

A critical question to ask reference the mambilla hydro dispute, why was Dr Agunloye not probed earlier than now almost 2 decades on?

Documented evidence reveal that Dr. Agunloye had provisional approval to issue a BOT ~ letter of intent at no cost to FGN to sunrise power transmission.

It’s no news that the bureau for public procurement came into existence in 2022.
Prior to this, minister didn’t require FEC approval to issue contracts.
More significantly, Agunloye the then minister of power had provisional approval to give Sunrise power transmission the grounds to secure funding and expertise for the construction of the mambilla hydro project at no cost to FGN on a build operate and transfer basis.

The 2nd allegations levied by the EFCC is that the sum of N3.6 million was deposited by sunrise power transmission in 2018, 15 years after Dr Agunloye had served as minister.

Is it a crime if Sunrise paid Dr. Olu Agunloye’s medical bill or travel expenses 15 years after he left office as minister of power and steel. There is nothing in the Nigerian law which stops or prevents assisting or gifting government official after retirement. What the law is against is inducing government officials to do one’s bidding.

Whether or not Sunrise or its chairperson gave a gift to a government official in cash or otherwise, the question remains: was it to induce Dr. Agunloye ?
If and when Sunrise showed kindness to a friend, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it, considering they related for many years on this viable project.
