Grant Holloway’s quest for a fourth straight world 110m hurdles crown ended in disappointment on Tuesday as he finished sixth in his semi-final at the World Championships in Tokyo.

The 27-year-old Olympic champion, who has struggled to find his best form this season, started strongly but faltered in the final 30 metres at Tokyo’s National Stadium. The race was won by Jamaica’s Tyler Mason in 13.12 seconds.

Holloway’s American compatriot, Cordell Tinch, has been the standout performer this year and booked his place in the final. He will be joined by Japan’s Rachid Muratake, last year’s Paris Olympic finalist, who is finding peak form at the right moment.
