World Cup: Host Qatar Eliminated After Ecuador, Netherlands Draw -By Shereefdeen Ahmad

The host of the 2022 World Cup, Qater became the first team to crash out of the tournament on Friday after loss to Senegal and a 1-1 draw between Netherlands and Ecuador in the Group A.

The Dutch and Ecuador each now have four points, both teams having won their opening games. African side, Senegal have three points following a 3-1 victory over rivals Qater in the Group A campaign earlier on the Friday.

Qater, having suffered two consecutive defeats in the Group, means they cannot qualify to the next round again, no matter what happened in their final match with Netherlands on Tuesday.

The Lions of Teranga, Senegal secured three points as they head to their final group stage battle with Ecuador.

Dia broke the deadlock at the verge of the first-half to put the Lions of Teranga in a 1-0 lead after the Senegalese capitalised on Khoukhi’s slip to shot the ball past goalkeeper Barsham.

Muntari thumped in a header past Mendy to bring the game 2-1 on the scoresheet. However, Senegal restored their two-goal lead after Dieng wrapped up the scoring at the 85th minute.

Later in the day, Netherlands and Ecuador settled for a 1-1 draw in the Group A campaign. The Dutch took lead through Klaassen barely before the fans could settle on their seats. Ecuador had to wait until 10 minutes after the first-half before responding through Enner Valencia.
