Yobe: State of Emergency on Education need an urgent systemic Retrospection -By Ali Tijjani Hassan
Looking at the state of education in Yobe state, one may have no option than to conclude that the sector is in immense rot and shame stage. Education today, despite all the exaggerated amount of state budget invested in the educational sector, there is no visible achievement to point out.

About a half decade the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has listed Yobe state least on literacy index with 7.23% literacy level which is unprecedented disappointment to the face of the state. Furthermore, the hug deficit in the educational was ranging and swinging.
After, the video of dilapidated state of one of the oldest Secondary schools (Fika GSS) located at Potiskum local government in the state got viral and uproar, many residents of the States were lamenting and reprimanding the sloppy act of the state Government on the educational sector.
It is on that note I decided to openly write this message to draw the attention of both the government and public on the sorry state of Education in Yobe State.
It’s well known to each and every learned individual, that systems are comprised to form a body, therefore, every feeble body is formed by a feeble systems.
During the Swearing ceremony, the present Yobe State Governor, on the podium while delivering a speech, he said and I quote “In line with our commitment to reform the education sector, I hereby declare a state of emergency on primary and secondary education in the state, to build a solid, vibrant and robust foundation for the development of education. Government would as a matter of deliberate policy continue to provide the necessary support to move education in the state to greater heights.”
Consequent to, first two years of his administration, the basic education has not yet take any direction. And this may not be unconnected with how the stakeholders in the educational sector went directly to rehabilitate the body Education instead of systems that hold the body!
In a saner clime, The systems of education that need an urgent reweigh are:
1 Learning environment
2 Manpower
3 Instructional and
4 Infrastructural facility
5 Training and Retraining of staff
In regard to conducive learning environment, it include: the providing of learning facilities, reconstruction of Classrooms and accommodation for the Students that are firmly hygienic.
In the case of Manpower, this contained the employing of qualified teachers not only enough but certified in teaching career with good moral orientation. As well as the implementation of teacher’s remuneration.
And the Instructional facility implies the providing of standard and updated learning materials such as books, practical equipment, et el.
The Infrastructural facility consists of providing of the passable infrastructures that include: electricity, hygienic water, digital instruments which would enable them to trails the common sense and goals of the 21st century.
The most important aspect is the training and retraining of staff. This deal with the teaching of new employees about the teaching profession and how it would affect the life and development of the upcoming generation.
In other hand, it comprised the organizing of workshops, and seminars as well about teaching careers and take the cognitive test at every conclusive sessions of the training eve.
Where are we today ?
Looking at the state of education in Yobe state, one may have no option than to conclude that the sector is in immense rot and shame stage. Education today, despite all the exaggerated amount of state budget invested in the educational sector, there is no visible achievement to point out.
It’s self-reproach to see an unqualified chemistry teacher that cannot calculate the accurate radioactive decay of an element working in same school and taking the same subject.
It’s a contrition to the dear state to see the unpatriotic education official encouraging the young ones on examination malpractice as an only way of achieving success to crown their educational journey. Then, when examination body release the results they will be unpretentious brag claiming with pride that it’s the outcome of their early declaration of this unscrupulous emergency.
Solutions and Advised
The state government should take a farthest care about the fund injected in to the sector with no refinement.
The ministry must ensure of the intelligence quotient of who ever will be employed, to avoid “Putting the square peg in the hole”. And the appointment must be on merit and meritorious.
The schools management must be cautioned on teachers presence, lesson’s plan, and lecture note.
The parents must ensure that there children are regularly attending schools.
Conclusion
With these little and cheaply rehabilitation idea the state of emergency on education will take a better shape and bright colour that could take Yobe state up to the early missed position in literacy index
May Yobe State Succeed.
