Zamfara APC Faces New Legal Storm as Suspended Officials Challenge ‘Illegal’ Sanctions in Court
Three APC officials in Zamfara have taken the party and its leaders to court over alleged illegal suspensions. The officials seek reinstatement, citing procedural violations, as tensions rise within the party ahead of future elections.
A fresh round of internal conflict has erupted within the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as three suspended party officials have taken the party and some of its leaders to court, alleging that their suspension was illegal and procedurally flawed.
The suit was filed by Hon. Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi, Kabiru Ibrahim, and Ibrahim DD Kurya. The trio is challenging the APC, its state chairman, Alhaji Tukur Danfulani Maikatako, and the Shinkafi Local Government chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Bama Shinkafi.
In a statement issued by Hon. Yushau Abdullahi Mada, Chairman of the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front, the suspensions were described as arbitrary, unjust, and in violation of the party’s internal regulations.
The aggrieved officials are requesting a court declaration affirming their continued membership in the APC and an order restraining the party from taking any further disciplinary actions. They argue they were duly elected during the 2022 congresses and claim they were suspended verbally—without written notice, justification, or the chance to defend themselves.
“It is unjust to punish fellow party members for attending a stakeholders’ meeting of the party duly convened for its progress,” the statement read.
The group also alleged that the suspensions were influenced by directives linked to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
“Our members, who were unlawfully suspended, have no option but to approach the court for redress, as it is the temple of justice and the last hope of all aggrieved persons,” Mada stated.
The Front urged party faithful to remain calm and allow the court to address the matter, stressing that unity within the APC remains crucial as preparations for upcoming elections continue.
