The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zamfara State Command, has confirmed that 17 people lost their lives after a commercial bus crashed into a collapsed bridge in Gwalli.

The Public Education Officer of the command, Isah Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau on Monday.

According to him, the victims, mostly women, were passengers in an 18-seater bus that sped into the remains of the collapsed bridge.

Aliyu explained that the bridge had caved in earlier in the week, and residents had resorted to placing sandbags to enable motorists to pass through. Unfortunately, the bus driver, unaware of the situation, drove straight into the damaged section, resulting in the fatal crash.

He quoted the Sector Commander, Aliyu Ma’aji, as expressing deep grief over the tragedy.

“Ma’aji condoled the families of the victims, as well as the government and people of Zamfara State over the incident,” the statement read.
