Zelensky Urges Trump to Mediate Peace in Ukraine After Phone Call
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked Donald Trump to help broker peace with Russia, saying if one war can be stopped, others can too. Relations between the two leaders have recently improved.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on Donald Trump to help mediate peace in Ukraine, drawing parallels with the former U.S. president’s recent diplomatic efforts in the Middle East.
Zelensky revealed the appeal during a phone conversation on Saturday, saying he believes Trump could play a vital role in ending the ongoing conflict with Russia.
“If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well — including the Russian war,” Zelensky wrote in a Facebook post following the call.
Relations between both leaders have significantly improved in recent months, following their tense and widely publicized February meeting at the White House, where they clashed over U.S. aid and peace strategies.
Since then, Trump has described Zelensky as a “nice guy” and reiterated his support for Ukraine, which continues to resist Russia’s full-scale invasion that began in 2022.
The two men also met in person on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York in September, further signaling a thaw in their diplomatic relationship.
