2027 Elections: INEC Raises Concern Over Early Campaigns by Politicians
INEC has raised concerns over premature campaigns by politicians ahead of the 2027 elections, saying they violate electoral laws and are often disguised as “philanthropy” or “appreciation” through billboards, social media, and public gatherings.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed concern about the increasing trend of premature political campaigns by politicians and their supporters, describing it as a violation of existing electoral laws.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Board of The Electoral Institute (TEI), Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during a stakeholders’ roundtable on “The Challenges of Premature Political Campaigns.”
According to him, politicians are now disguising early campaigns as acts of “appreciation” or “philanthropy,” using billboards, social media platforms, and even physical gatherings to promote their ambitions ahead of the official campaign window.
More details are expected later.
