2027: Ohanaeze Faction Backs Tinubu for Re-election, Applauds FG’s South-East Initiatives
The Ohanaeze faction condemned what it described as “orchestrated media attacks” against Umahi by opposition elements in the region, warning that such tactics would no longer be tolerated.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex socio-cultural group of the Igbo people, has expressed its full support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. The group highlighted the administration’s unprecedented commitment to the South-East region since the end of the Nigeria-Biafra war 55 years ago.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abakaliki, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Deputy National President of one of Ohanaeze’s factions, praised the federal government for earmarking a historic N1.43 trillion for the construction and rehabilitation of federal roads in the South-East. He described this initiative as a landmark achievement for the region.
Isiguzoro also pointed out that President Tinubu had launched the South-East Development Commission to foster economic growth and approved a $3 billion project to modernize the Eastern Economic Corridor. This project will upgrade the Port Harcourt–Aba–Ebonyi–Enugu–Makurdi–Lafia–Bauchi–Maiduguri railway from narrow gauge to standard gauge, marking a significant step toward enhancing regional infrastructure.
Additionally, the creation of the South-East Investment Company was identified as another strategic move to attract and manage investments in the region, further strengthening the administration’s commitment to the South-East’s development.
“The Federal Government is addressing critical challenges in our region,” Isiguzoro said. “We have a collective consensus to support President Tinubu’s administration until 2031, with an emphatic endorsement for his re-election in 2027. This support comes with important demands to address the pressing needs of our region.”
The statement also noted that the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, had been tasked with conveying the collective decisions of Igbo stakeholders and Southeast governors on President Tinubu’s projects and policies.
The Ohanaeze faction condemned what it described as “orchestrated media attacks” against Umahi by opposition elements in the region, warning that such tactics would no longer be tolerated.
“For the first time in over five decades, the Federal Government is making substantial investments in our region,” Isiguzoro stated. “It is in the interest of Ndigbo to align with President Tinubu’s administration to harness these projects and transform the Southeast into the new economic hub of West Africa.”
The group also called for an end to media hostilities against Umahi, emphasizing that the emergence of fictitious groups aimed at harassing or intimidating him was counterproductive.
“We stand firm in our support for Umahi and the Tinubu administration as we collectively strive for a brighter future for Ndigbo,” Isiguzoro concluded.
