The attention of the national leadership of our great party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has been drawn to an illegal gathering which is said to be the “meeting of National Executive Committee, NEC” of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) convened and conducted by Dr. Abdul Ahmed Isiaq, at Savannah Suites, Abuja in the early hours of today Saturday, 22 January 2022.

Dr. Abdul Ahmed Isiaq gathered a number of people, who are largely unknown to our Party, the SDP, and raised malicious and false allegations that are designed to cause disaffection within the ranks of the party, and or, engender opprobrium and portray the Party as an irresponsible political institution before the Nigerian public, who love and have high regards for the SDP as the credible alternative political party, and the bastion of hope for national retrieval, particularly as 2023 beckons.

We therefore, aver that Dr Abdul, the suspended Deputy National Chairman – North of our Party, has no constitutional power or authority to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting. The National Secretary, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, according to our Constitution, 2018 (as Amended), is the national officer who has that statutory power to call for a NEC Meeting with the approval of the National Chairman, Dr. Olu Agunloye, or the National Working Committee (NWC). Such call for meeting must be with the due knowledge of, and approval of a dully signed Notice of NEC Meeting by the duo, to INEC, which is the statutory regulatory body of political parties in Nigeria.

We hereby wish to add and also reinstate the fact that Dr. Abdul Ahmed Isiaq had earlier been formally suspended by the National Working Committee (NWC) since 17 January 2022, for gross misconduct and fraudulent activities, and this was duly communicated to the Office of the Chairman of INEC, Office of the Inspector General of Police, and relevant institutions on same day.

The unauthorised action of Dr. Abdul in convening a purported “NEC Meeting” is not only illegal but self-serving, and inimical to the progress and well-being of our party and it’s national leadership. Above all, we hereby emphasize that such act of recklessness if unchecked appropriately by the relevant authorities which the national leadership of the party has contacted, could lead to a significant breach of peace across the country if millions of other genuine members of the Party decide to challenge or confront the Dr. Abdul gang in order to safeguard it’s true interest.

The Nigerian Police has earlier been duly contacted about this condemnable development, and were requested to wade in and ensure that Dr. Abdul Isiaq Ahmed and his co-travellers in this illegal moves are not allowed to destabilize the party, or cause a breach of public peace through their actions. The party hereby calls on all our well-meaning and patriotic members across the country to remain calm and peaceful as the situation is very well under control. Members of the Nigerian public are also hereby enjoined to disregard in their entirety, the actions and activities of Dr. Abdul and his associates in the foregoing regards.
