A New Dawn For Women And Youth -By Kenechukwu Obiezu

It is then imperative to identify with an idea and a movement which is simply unstoppable because its time has come. To sit on the fence and wring ones hands at the bad governance guzzling up Nigeria is no longer an option. To address the drift, there has to be identification with a movement as visionary and as vigorous as the PDP New Generation.

In Nigeria, it is a widely held belief that if power is to well and truly belong to the people, it must shine forth in the hands of women and youth who form the core of political participation in the country. This is what the PDP New Generation is about.

With septuagenarians practically taking over the halls of power, the lot has fallen on youths to stake their claim to power in the country as well as create the space where women, so often and unjustifiably excluded from power equation, can find some inclusion.

This noble purpose informed the birth of the PDP New Generation under the electric leadership of the Director- General Mr. Abdullahi Mahmood.Working with a team of young people who are trailblazers in their respective fields, the Director-General has expertly and efficiently gone about mobilizing Nigerians to reclaim power in the country and rescue Nigerias fast sinking ship.

It has been seven years since the PDP was replaced by the All Progressives Congress in government. The jeopardy the country has suffered in these seven years tells a gripping story of how power has been slowly but steadily hemorrhaged from Nigerians until almost nothing left.

While power has slipped out of Nigerian hands in the last seven years, the enemies of the country have felt especially emboldened to launch bloody attack after bloody attack on Nigerians. Insecurity has been widespread across the entire country while poverty continues to manhandle families. While all these rage , the APC-led government at the center watches with folded arms, stunned into helplessness by a combination of its own incompetence and inertia. The change it promised Nigerians in 2015 has horrifyingly turned out to be a change for the worst.

The charge now is to return power to women and youth who are grossly underrepresented in the power-sharing equation. This is a task the PDP New Generation has taken to with relish.

In trying to subtly change the power narrative in the country, the PDP New Generation is appealing to the patriotism of Nigerians who desire to see change in the country to give democracy a chance to do what it does best which is giving power to the people.

To do this, structures are needed and the PDP New Generation is working day and night to put these structures in place. The generational movement has everyday Nigerians who have suffered unspeakable hardship for seven years now at the center of its work. So for it, it is not as much about any political party or any political affiliation as it is about the Nigerian youth and women who stand to benefit the most if the Giant of Africa gets back on its feet.

As always, it remains about giving power to the people. Nigerians feel powerless at the moment, but with the PDP New Generation working assiduously to rewrite the story, it wont be long before a new song is chanted. At this juncture, identifying with an idea and movement whose time has come is not only a wise thing to do, it is lifes winning ticket.
