ANRP Admonishes President Buhari on His Infamous ‘Your Land or Your Life’ Statement
ABUJA, 5 July 2018 — Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) has taken President Muhammadu Buhari to task on his infamous pronouncements, to wit ‘You can only have ancestral attachment when you are alive. If you are talking about ancestral attachment, if you are dead, how does the attachment matter?’ And ‘What will the land be used for if those who own it are dead at the end of the day?’
President Buhari spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on television. The context is what others purport to be an attempt to forcefully grab land from others under a pretext of creating ranches as a solution to ending the farmer-herder crises leading to untold mayhem spread across the country.
The Party notes that such insensitive and rather divisive declarations can come across as threats, and create room for those who insist that the government of President Buhari is complicit in a sinister agenda to take over the ancestral land of others forcefully using intimidation.
ANRP as a matter of policy prefers ranching of animals as against pastoralism due to the numerous advantages. The Party however is more inclined towards the government promoting this as a private sector driven enterprise, with the government at all levels playing the role of a facilitator and enabler. The Party also tasks the federal government on its primary responsibility of securing lives, to stop the killing and
the growing anarchy.
