There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, there are no limits.” Michael Phelps

The recent elevation and promotion of Olumuyiwa Adejobi as the Assistant Commissioner of Police has proven that all roads that lead to success have to pass through hard work boulevards at some point.

His promotion as Assistant Commissioner of Police by the Police Service Commission has also proven that the price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.

Those who have been following his career progression are quick to talk glowingly about his days at the Ogun State Police Command, Abeokuta; Zone II Command, Onikan, Lagos; and Lagos State Command, Ikeja, Lagos, where he had proven his mettle as a gifted image maker.

Since his appointment as the acting Force PRO in February 2022 and his confirmation as Substantive Force PRO in April 2022 by the former Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, he has managed the image of the Nigeria Police professionally.

He has been described by many as one of the best spokesmen the Nigeria Police Force has produced in many years.

His success in his field is demonstrated by the long list of industry honors that are displayed throughout his opulent office and house. In the course of his official responsibilities and social involvement, he has won more than 300 accolades on a local and global level.

Adejobi has carved a niche for himself in Police Public Relations Management with the experience he has gained serving as PPRO in different Police Commands and zones for more than a decade.

Adejobi graduated in Archaeology and Geography from the University of Ibadan. He observed his National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) in Anambra State, where he was eventually appointed as the Corps Liaison Officer (CLO) in Nnewi North Local Government.

Thereafter, he returned to his alma mater and obtained a Masters’ Degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the Institute of African Studies.

He was enlisted as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and sent to the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, for an 18-month training before his commissioning as an ASP.

He has been a competent Police Officer in the Nigeria Police Force, holding offices including parade commander, ceremonial parades, Ogun State (2006–2010), and operations officer, Officer-In-Charge, anti-bank robbery, and anti-pipeline vandalism, Sagamu Division (2006–2008).

He also acquired different professional certificates, which include Conflict Handling Styles from the University of Ibadan and Mandatory Development Course from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.

Other awards in his kitty include Best Police Public Relations Officer in Nigeria by Security Watch Africa, Johannesburg, South Africa, November 2013; and Best Police Public Relations Officer in West Africa by Security Watch Africa, Dubai, UAE, 2014, among others.

In the words of Pele, “Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice, and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.”

I see Adejobi work so hard every day to achieve this accomplishment, and I can’t think of anyone who deserves it more, as he has set an amazing example for everyone at the Force Public Relations Department of the Nigeria Police.

Adejobi, your ability to relentlessly search for solutions to problems and find innovative ways to improve the image of the Nigeria Police is the key to this promotion and many more to come.

On a final note, Congratulations on the amazing promotion. This is an incredible milestone, and you deserve the spotlight to celebrate the moment.
