Atiku Visits Jonathan in Abuja After Return From Guinea-Bissau Mission
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar visited ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja after Jonathan’s return from Guinea-Bissau. The meeting comes days after Atiku joined the ADC, fueling speculation about 2027 election alignments.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday visited former President Goodluck Jonathan at his Abuja home, marking their first publicly known meeting since Jonathan returned from monitoring elections in Guinea-Bissau.
Atiku shared photos of the visit on his social media handles on Sunday, describing the interaction as warm and cordial.
“It was a pleasure catching up with former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday evening, following his recent return from Guinea-Bissau,” he wrote.
The courtesy call comes days after Atiku formally resigned from his former party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a move he said was prompted by the party’s deviation from its founding principles. His defection has heightened ongoing political realignment talks ahead of the 2027 elections.
There are growing indications that Atiku may emerge as the coalition’s preferred presidential candidate in the forthcoming poll cycle.
The ADC has recently stepped up efforts to present itself as a viable alternative to Nigeria’s major parties, actively courting prominent political figures as it expands its influence nationwide.
