The All Progressives Congress (APC) Bayelsa State Chapter has raised an alarm over an orchestrated campaign of calumny by the Governor Douye Diri-led administration against the party and its governorship candidate in Bayelsa State.

According to a statement signed by Dennis Otiotio-Odoni, Chairman of APC stated  reliable sources that the state government has devised a devious plan to employ disgruntled politicians to carry out a smear campaign against the APC. These politicians, acting as hired hands and mercenaries, are set to infiltrate major media outlets and pose as APC chieftains.

Their intention is to tarnish the reputation of the party and its esteemed governorship candidate, Mr Timipre Sylva, the former state minister for petroleum.

“It is disheartening to witness Governor Douye Diri resorting to such petty and desperate measures,” stated Dennis Otiotio-Odoni, Chairman of APC Bayelsa. “Instead of focusing on providing credible governance and serving the people, he has chosen to indulge in frivolities and deceive the good people of Bayelsa State.”

“Governor Douye Diri, who never won the 2019 elections but assumed office through a Supreme Court judgment, appears to be resorting to base instincts in the face of a credible alternative. His actions reflect an attempt to mislead and manipulate the citizens of Bayelsa State.”
