BREAKING NEWS: Former England striker Trevor Francis dies at 69

Former England striker and first British one million pound forward player who won the European Cup twice with Nottingham Forest, Trevor John Francis has died at age 69, Daily Mail reported on Monday.

Francis rose to stardom at Birmingham City and was a lethal striker in his prime.

He scored 118 goals in 280 games for his boyhood side which led to his monumental move in 1979 from Birmingham City to Forest.

Francis became the first British player to be transferred for that amount in history after Brian Clough’s Forest side splashed out the enormous fee for him.

Clough had revealed that it was in fact £1,150,000, noting that he was trying to take the pressure off his big-money man.

Francis who was born on April 19, 1954, in Plymouth in the United Kingdom got married to his spouse, Helen and they were married for 43 years.

He spoke about his remarkable career and personal struggle following the death of his wife in 2017.

He said, “When you get in the first team as a footballer you don’t think football will ever stop. In the same way, I didn’t think Helen and I would ever stop. She was my best friend and I couldn’t have done any of what I did without her.”
