A Texas woman woke up after a herniated disc surgery to find out that her southern drawl had been replaced with a thick Russian accent.

Abby Fender, 39, found out after the procedure that her vocal cords were paralysed and she no longer spoke as she had for the vast majority of her life.

Doctors, initially perplexed but eventually diagnosed Ms Fender with a rare condition known as Foreign Accent Syndrome.
