Brothers Targeted in Home Attack; One Killed, One Critically Injured in Nasarawa
The victims, identified as brothers Edwin and Cyril, were at their property overseeing construction work when the assailants struck. According to a close relative, the workers had left for the day when the attackers arrived.
Gunmen killed a man and left his brother in critical condition during a targeted attack at a family home in the Akunza community of Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Monday, September 1.
The victims, identified as brothers Edwin and Cyril, were at their property overseeing construction work when the assailants struck. According to a close relative, the workers had left for the day when the attackers arrived.
“Suddenly the attackers came chanting their names and wanted to force the door open,” the source stated. “When they could not because they locked the entry door from inside, [they] came to the window and shot at the brother first before shooting at Cyril.”
The relative confirmed that the brothers were not on a farm, as initially speculated, but in a populated area. “They were at the community which he said is not even a quiet or isolated area. They had neighbours and activities around them.”
In a separate but related incident, suspected bandits also killed a resident, Alhaji Sani, at his home in Lafia. One of the alleged assailants was caught by neighbours and burnt to death.
These events have intensified fear among Lafia residents, who lament the alarming frequency of violent attacks. The community has described the “frequent attacks and killings in the state capital as worrisome,” leaving families devastated.
